today i was visiting my cousin and i went to this gig he was playing at his high school. i was standing in the audience looking lonely and watching this gorgeous girl with gorgeous locks. all of a sudden, she came up to me and we just started talking. it was so nice. i felt this overwhelming sense of community that we were drawn together like that.

i wish i had asked for some way to keep in touch with her.

Forgive me if this is completly unacceptable to post [and if you feel so, deleate it, and please accept my apologies!] but since this community lists "steel drums" as one of it's interests, I thought it might be beneficial to inform you all that there is now a steel drum band community, steeldrumband, and if you play, or are even just interested in learning about the steel pans, than please come join!

Thanks! *slinks away*

I finished my dreads again. I started em, but took em out b/c i actually got a job interview, but that didn't work out, so they're back in again. yes. I was going to wait til friday to do them, b/c that's when my friend and I are leaving on our journey, so it was cool to get a headstart. They're looking pretty good already. I've got them threaded up right now to keep them tight, til they start to lock on their own. If i ever come into contact with a web cam (ooh...) then i'll post some pics but that's pretty doubtful and most likely for the best.
: ) If anyone wants to chat about dreads only (i'm totally j/k), my msn is Casper_6_@hotmail.com

Hey everyone! I just joined and thought I should introduce myself or something or other. I'm 24, an eternal college student, Pagan, Lesbian, living in a nice ol' redneck area in Indiana. (the whole state isn't redneck, but the area I live in surely is. yay! :-/). Anyway, I came searching for exactly this type of place because I need help from the experts as it were. I want to dread my hair so bad I can taste it, but no one I know knows how it's done, and everytime I walk into a salon around here to get an idea of what I can do, they all look at me like I have three heads or something and tell me that only African Americans can do that with their hair and try to talk me into braids instead - which I know is crap because I've seen plenty of different kinds of people with dreads. Anyway - my major concern is that I have very thin/fine hair, and I'm afraid that my hair would look crappy in dreads - I don't want a weird checkerboard thing happening, or dreads so tiny that they would break easily. Are these valid concerns and do you think I could get it done successfully?

Sorry to dump all this on ya all at once - but I'm definitely itching to get started making this happen! Hehhe. Good to meet you all!
