I'm really worried about my dreadlocks, I'm fed up with them. Because they don't grow at all, for 1year I have them, they are shorter than when they've "done". Like I've already said you, they got mixed up alone, and gave some dreadlocks. They're punt and without volume. It seems like if I have not much hair. As soon as they grow a little bit, the roots get mixed up again and again...And the end of my dreadlocks breaks always. I don't know what can I do. I don't want to cut my hair short. I just want my dreadlocks grow!! and get some volume. anyone to help me ? to give me some advice ?

The salt with which I wash my hair is from the Atlantic, and I imagine all the whales and shipwrecks and lovers and sharks and messages in bottles (maybe the ones Sacha and I threw into the Pacific? aren't all seas connected, just one body of water? isn't it the same with souls?) and sand and skeletons and lifeboats and octopi and seashells and ghosts and driftwood and hope that must be instilled into my hair because of it. The way it smells and tastes, I could shake my head and cause a tidal wave, drown a city. They're less dreadlocks than they are an ocean.

I am not a wolf, I am a lighthouse.

help ! [27 Aug 2003|10:40am]
[ mood | burpy ]

a friend of mine has asked me to do his dreads, once again. last time i did it he didn't want to buy any products or wax to help the process all he wanted to use was elmers glue (blech!) they actually turned out ok but he took them out later because his ex-gf kept telling him dreads are the grossest thing in the world (IDIOT GIRL!) i was wondering what products you people could suggest me to use to do his dreads (even household products i know do the trick sometimes), and common places you can purchase them. (i live in the USA so foreign people might not be of help here) any tips you can suggest i use while doing his dreads would be greatly appreciated! thanks :D

after weeks of scratching my head, i came to a conclusion to just get rid of the dreads and wash out dandruff with specially made anti dandruff shampoo, though the dandruff has not completely disapeared, its not as itchy as it once was...amen to that..anyway what i was wondering was, i still have the odd dread here and there and being winter here and all and not owning a hair dryer would anyone know of a way to dry my hair...as i have not found a way, ive had the odd cold chill and yeah..so anyone have any tips?

naive questions from a newbie! [27 Aug 2003|04:01pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]

hi, i've been lurking for ages & just finally joined. 2 questions...

1. does anyone start dreads by putting their hair in tiny braids and just letting it go? I don't have dreads but I've done extension braids before (I have whitegrrl straight hair) and it starts to get dready at the roots after they've been in a while. So I was thinking about just braiding it up and letting it go.

Then I saw Ani DiFranco onstage and it looks like maybe that's how she did hers? They have a kinda braidy textured look in places... Anyway I love how hers look.

2. has anyone here who's white gotten negative feedback from black people re: their dreads? I have only ever had positive response to my braids but I'm leery of upsetting actual Rastas or African-Americans whose dreads are religiously significant to them. Maybe I am too paranoid...

Anyway you are a beautiful bunch of people and I look forward to learning more from this group!

hello! my name is Martine, and i was reading this group already for a long time, so eeh i could just as well join and write something myself too :) im from holland, i have my dreads for about 1,5 year, but last winter i cut about half of them off, now i have still dreads the two middle lines of my head, and on the back some more, and two behind my ears. I only backcombed them, never put anything in them, and uhm how to describe.. when you take the dread between your uhh pointing finger and your middle finger, and about one cm away from that between your other pointing and middle finger, and then start making circles in opposite sides.. and for the roots, do the same but just with one hand and start rubbing it against your head. but i never really did a lot about them, so theyre also different sizes and with lots of weird shapes and stuff.. but i think thats the way its supposed to be :) its already the second time ive got dreads, like 4 or 5 years ago i had dreads for about half a year, but those were very uncomfortable, only about 15, really fat ones.. now im happy with em, so eeh thats it :)
hm on this computer i dont really have any clear pictures, but here are some anyway..

hey, i've had my dreads for about 2 and a half weeks now and i think it's time to wash them. and this may sound kind of dumb but i'm a little afraid too since i've heard about them falling apart and having to recomb them. i have residue-free shampoo and a hair dryer and everything but i don't know.. i like them now and i don't want them to look different! also am i supposed to just rub the soap on my scalp and rinse it or do i rub it into the dreads too?
sorry if this is a ridiculous question but hey.. i'm a dread newbie

Hi everyone

I have a question to ask you, because I need some advice. I wanna dye the end of my dreadlocs. But I'm not sure about the colors. I have blond hair. So, orange fire or red ? I've posted some pics of my dreadlocks a few time ago.
I'm waiting for your advice, thx :)
