dream dream dream dream dreadie dreadie dream

ive been thinking about it for a while now, and i determined that i really want to get dreads done :) i dont really know (and if i do i dont trust) any friends/acquaintances to dread me so i am going to go and ask the only hairdresser ive heard does dreads on this little island and see how much of my christmas money she wants :) mum just wrinkled her nose at the idea which is a REALLY good sign since i dont want shite from her and she did the same wrinkling nosie thing for me dying my hair..
thats a question i difficult is it to dye dreads? at the moment i have a purple and black head of hair, purple all round my head and black in the middle..would it be really hard to dye my hair once i have dreads? dunnoo plus a couple of random purple ones melded into the chunk of black would look nice i reckon *ponders*
most of my friends are really unsure of the idea, one of my friends noted that she couldnt imagine me in dreads AND my big buckle high heel black boots...*snigger* we will just have to see
i really hope i manage to get them done, and any info on dying the dreadies would be muchas appreciated..ive been reading this community's posts for a while now and i feel quite clued up now and there are so many people with gorgeous dreads :)
*cant wait to join you all in dread heaven*

Some new dread questions

Hey all, I was just introduced to this community and it's so awesome!

My dreads are just over a week old, and I have a couple of questions. Whenever I palm roll my dreads, it seems more hairs come loose than lock up. Does this mean something's wrong, or does it just mean that I should palm roll the hell out of that dread until those loose hairs start tangling up?

I'm also incompetent with elastics, and can't get any tight around the there anything else I can do to the tips to keep the dread from untangling from the tips?

These pictures are a little old and bad quality, but oh well. I got them in the summer and now that it's winter my head itches a whole lot more. I haven't really washed my hair in a while because it keeps the itching down, but is there any other way?

i need some advice from people on how to rinse out your dreads especially well when you wash them. i live where it's really cold in the winter, so i just try not to get my hair wet more than i absolutely need to after some point in october and before late march/early april, because cold wet dreads are no fun to have stuck to your head, and because during a three week long sub-freezing cold snap last winter they took a day and a half to get dry when i washed them. anyway, i just rinsed out my hair for the first time since september, and i'm still having a really hard time rinsing out what i'm assuming is the dr bronner's that i washed my hair with then. i'm talking like squeezing the same lock for fifteen minutes in the shower and still getting a ton of what seems like soapy building that smells vaguely of peppermint, but is darker colored than the soap. my dreads smell pretty ok, i just wanted to rinse my hair because my scalp would than me and for some freakish reason it's been 60ish out for the past few days, despite being december. my dreads are also denser than most other people's dreadlocks that i've had a chance to compare mine to, so i think i'm having a harder time with rinsing and drying. eg - i can't push a safety pin through it easily anymore, and i haven't for over a year (my dreads are about a month shy of being two years old)
