hair dye always disappears...in the twilight zone

i'm so confuzled now... here's my story. about a week ago, give or take a few days, i dyed four of my dreads red. i might not have squished the dye in enough or left it on long enough, so when i rinsed it out only 2 1/2 dreads were dyed. but it looked pretty cool, so whatever. i should have used gloves, but that's beside the point. so i ended up not washing my hair for two weeks...maybe it was two weeks ago that i did that...? whoa. but my question is, if i haven't been washing my hair, why did the dye fade? my hair can't be oily, because don't the dreads trap oil and not spread it down the whole length of hair? or am i just mixing things up? ?

Finally getting me dreads tonight...
Wish them luck.

And just because I'm lazy, and don't feel like scrolling thru a million frackin posts, What do you recommend for washing them as far as anti-itch, and dandruff goes?

That is all.

i met the coolest girl in the bathroom of the aragon ballroom in chicago at the white stripes/flaming lips show this new years.
she had gorgeous dreads and a beautiful smile. she told me she liked my dreads. we had a chat about patience and being white girls with dreads in the south. she called me "sistah" a number of times.

made me feel kinda warm and fuzzy inside.

then at work today, i had my dreads pulled back in a ponytail and a girl said something to me about my "knotty little brats" (what she called them) and said i should where them down, work or no.

its nice when you kind of feel a connection with people thru that sort of thing

thought id share my little stories..
