Basic questions from a newbie [09 Jan 2004|01:23pm]
[ mood | calm ]

Hello, everyone.

I just joined this group today because I am contemplating growing dreadlocks. I've been reading through a lot of posts and I have been getting a lot of useful information.

Question 1: What do I need to do first? I have no idea where to start or what I need in preparation.

Question 2: How difficult are the dreads to maintain? And what exactly is involved in maintenence?

Question 3: Is the only way to 'take them out' to cut them out?

(Informational note - I'm black and my hair is about three inches in length as I am just growing it out after wearing a natural for three years. It's currently lightly relaxed. I didn't know if this made a difference or not.)

I know those questions are pretty basic (and probably silly) and I apologize for bringing them up to you all. This seems to be a friendly community, so I was hoping that I could get some help.

Thanks a lot!

Wow, it's been a while. [09 Jan 2004|02:58pm]

Hello all, i have posted in this community for about 4 months now due to up-coming plan to moving across the country but i do have a question now.

My dreads are currently 7 months old and are locking up nicely but my question is this. I'm getting all these little stray frizzy hairs sticking out of the dread. I went to the hairdresser that did my dreads and they said to just carefully trim them off. I did that but as soon as i wash them again the frizzy hairs are back. How do all you dreadheads get you perfectly neat, smooth dreads? I'll also add that after about 3 - 4 months with my dreads i stopped waxing because i didn't like the greasy feeling and i felt that my dreads were locking up quite nicely by themselves.

Oh, and just as an after-thought. I'm now modeling my dreads off Munky from Korn. Pictures of his dreads recently are just amazing. Goddamn you stupid hair, grow faster!!!
