x-posted to my journal

Yesterday somebody laughed at my dreadlocks and called me a "mosher". Today I was called a "nigger" and several people stared at me with sarcasm and laughter in their eyes. Considering the fact that I dress differently on a day to day basis, I found it kind of insulting to be called a "mosher" because it makes me sound like some 14 year old skater. Being called a "nigger" was even more perplexing, for two reasons. First of all I'm not black, but I'm assuming the (white) person who called me that disgusting name assumes that I'm trying to be more black with my dreads or something equally ridiculous. Second of all, dreadlocks didn't originate in just one place, like Jamaica. They've existed in India and perhaps many other places for quite a long time, so educate yourself before you say stupid, prejudiced things. It's easy, mmkay? From now on I will just ignore them.

Today I dressed up like a pretentious artist and took stupid pictures of myself. Skip if you're sick of my face. Enjoy if you're not.

more dreads..

I posted these elsewhere on lj, and someone suggested that i post them here. I have had dreadlocks for the past 12 years, although i have cut them off every 3 or 4 years, currently it's 5 years, the longest yet, but i think it will be the last. I live in Italy, even though i am australian. In Italy there is not much space for individualism, and i have to admit that it annoys me slightly that dreadlocks have become fashionable and people actually pay for them! I'm a bit of a purest and think that the only REAL dreads are those naturally occurring ones. Perhaps i am being a bit idealistic and of course i respect your decisions to have dreads for whatever reason you like to have them, it's just my opinion and i don't expect it to be the only one.

I don't like being identified as 'belonging' to a certain group, rasta, hippy whatever, because i am none of those, i'm just lazy and don't brush my hair.
Nice to meet you all!

Anybody use Burt's Bees shampoo soap bar? If so, does it work well? It it safe for dreads in the sense that it doesn't have any conditioners or looseners?

A friend gave me a small sample bar, and I hope its safe to use. If it works well, I'd like to get bigger bar, I think it's cheaper than KnottyBoy's stuff too, and if it is, score for me. Plus I don't have to wait a week for it to ship to me, I can just go down to Wegman's and buy some for a few bucks less :D

Don't get me wrong, I love Kboy's stuff. But I'm broke and have no job heh.

they'll be 3 months tomorrow. my babies are growing up so fast...!

i'll be wicked busy tomorrow, so i'm doing my anniversary post (i know i do it every month, so deal!) tonight.

i've been separating them a lot lately, i like smaller ones, and i figured i'd do it now while they're young so they'll all age at about the same rate. okay, now i really sound like a mother, and it's starting to scare me, so i'll make with the pictures.
