i'm new here, considering getting dreadlocks soon, or maybe in summer
i keep reading that swimming in the sea is actually good, but is swimming in the sea *everyday* ok for them?
also, i know that you can dye dreadlocks (or can you?), can you do it as soon as you get them..or do you have to wait some time?
i'm reading past entries and wow never realised there's so much stuff to learn about dreads. i'm seriously interested in them, just need a little convincing. but i know i will like them when i do get them :o)

So I just joined this community..I think its GREAT by the way. I Love seeing everyones dreads they look sooo amazing. I've had dreads for about 6 months now and I've been using knottyboy products. UMM the soap bar and the wax...OO and I just got this kick ass locksteady gel stuff that smells like lime juice..YUMMY. Ok so anyway my problem is dry scalp..It's really bothering me!! HELP! I was wondering what other people here use and if anyone else has that problem?

Any suggestions would help..THANKS.

today is the day that i believe i shall undertake the great and muchly awaited removal of orange-ness from this dreaded head of mine
i am quite tired of walking around with orangeness..
specially since i never set off asking for orangeness
but orangeness has been an experience...
and now
since i live in funny country
i can't find purple dye
and i have settled for blue..
i've never tried blue.. --> this is the blue im using..4th from left : http://img13.photobucket.com/albums/v37/thick_paint/Group3.png
but it may just do the trick..
i also bought bleach..
a sachet and a bottle of liquidy stuff
ho hum
i really need to read more about this stuff..
i dont want my hair to fall out..
hmm...any experts in the field?
or maybe just people with experience..
those will do..
i shall settle..
any help to be had?
gorgeous persons?
smooches and love... :)
fanqyeew in advance

I'm new to this community and I think it is SO great to see everyone's dreads and hear their stories. I figured I'd share mine...

So 9 months ago I decided "Hey let's get dreadlocks!" My parents hated the idea and fought it like mad, but in the end I got them. They were wonderful up until November when I got too busy to wax/maintain them all the time. Then I went through 4 or so months of hating my hair. But I was too stubborn and too in love with the idea of dreads to cut my hair. I wore it in a ponytail every day and had very few days when I actually loved them.

Last night I realized that all the wax was gone from my hair - and how great that felt, and I took them down and all of a sudden my hair was back to its original reddish brown colour, and dreaded so well (minus a few loopies), and its so long! So I washed it really well and conditioned my scalp with tea tree oil and such and wore it differently today!

My love affair with my hair has begun all over again. And I am SO happy. I'm going completely natural now with the dreadies - washing all the time still, but NO wax or products! I know it seems superficial to get so excited over hair, but my dreads are not just a hairstyle - they're a statement about who I truly am at heart (hippie granola tree-hugging kid) and they make me stand out from the crowd which is my basic goal in life.

I posted some pictures so you can see the yay hair day I am having today. Its raining/very humid out so they've gone crazy-go-nuts curly!
school uniforms clash with dreads and hemp necklaces!Collapse )

I have this little skull bead, and I wanted to share him with you guys. He's been living in my dreads for the past week or so, and people will see him from far away, and they're like, "You have something in your hair..." then they get close and they see what it is, and they say, "OH! It's so cute!" So here he is, the first shot is him in my dreads, the second shot is my attempt at being artsy and camera fancy :D

Behind da cut!
