thanks for all your help :)
What do you think is the best way to get loose hairs to dread or combine with the closest dread?
Anyone can reply but I would like someone with more expertise........such as a long time dreadhead
but any tips are welcome......
I've been trying to think of something different to do with my dreads this summer.
After three years my hair is totally locked tight. Before I started the dread process I had a twa (teeny weenie afro). I now have some length to play around with (my dreads are just to my shoulders) and I'm looking for some suggestions.
I want to play around with color and was looking for something to add to my dreads besides just beads and dread cuffs. A good friend suggested adding ribbon to random locks (wrapping it around) and I thought this was a cool idea :>
Have any of you added ribbon to your hair? If so how did you wrap it around the dread? Is it difficult to keep in place?
What other ways do you decorate your dreads?
There was a pic of India Aire before she cut off her dreads ... it was a cover shot of her for Essence magazine, I believe, where she had added ribbon to random dreads along with her usual cowerie shells and copper cuffs. I wish I could find that pic :/
boys and girls (new friends!)--
"hi, i'm new!"
i felt like being cliché!
but really, i'm new. dreads for... (counts)... 5 months. and i love this community! (sucks up.)
but really, i've been meaning to join for a while now, and i've found a perfect opportunity!
i have a fancy party to go to this weekend, and, being a girlie girl, i want to do something fancy (pretty!) with my dreadies.
they're just past my shoulder and have a few beadies here and there. i've heard the ribbon suggestion (probably going to do that anyway), but i'm looking for some updo or something that could be fun.
you're all very smart people will more experience than me with this stuff (i'm a bandana kind of girl).
all comments and suggestions loved.
plus, i'll post some photos when i get a chance.
thanks all, new friends.
Is it, uh, realistic to not want to keep having debates here about non-dread topics? Like, I love that we're a community and all, but if people are just going to fight, maybe you could not bring it up? I'm referencing the vegetarian thing, which seems to be a sore point for some, and the religious/god stuff from before...I don't know, maybe this isn't the venue? Like, couldn't you have just said "Does anyone have any vegetarian forum links?" instead of saying that you were going to delete comments, etc.?
I know you all HATE MY EVER-LOVIN' GUTS, but I'm asking you nicely to maybe not post non-topic stuff here. Maybe. You guys decide, as clearly you hate that I'm your moderator. All you haters, remember that hate is ugly. You-gee-el-why you ain't got no alibi.
Also, I am very drunk and high, therefore full of love for you all regardless of your hate for me. So maybe it's time to stop with the non-topic (DREADS/HAIR/ETC.) discussions. Like, music and stuff is okay because it causes no strife, but cut it out with the god stuff and the i'ma delete your comment stuff, huh?
And you know, I don't even care if you hate me because I love this forum and I love dreadlocks and I've done a lot of stuff with your consent. Haters, for real, hate is ugly. And if I get one more email telling me I'm an asshole I'm totally giving up on all of you.
See what I mean? OFF TOPIC. (grin)
I love dreadlocks. And I love haters. And I LOVE YOU.
