Dreads. I've become absolutely fascinated with them. I've come to a point where fake ones simply won't do. NEED DREADS OF MY OWN! My hair is actually only chin length, and it gets progressively shorter as it goes down the back of my head. It's only around an inch and a half long at it's shortest. Should I dread it, or wait? How short will it be? I'm planning on skinny, pencil-thin dreads. Good idea, or no? I really don't want to start off using wax, is there a way I could avoid it, but still have problem-free, frizzball-free dreads? Thankyou, pretty people, for your help. I adore you.

Fake dreads that I've become so wary of

my dreads are angry at me. Since I keep pulling back my half dreaded hair it keeps unraveling the tips. Then they get even worse and start curling too, so I have like 5 dreads that are all curly and such. I love dreads but man mine are a bitch. I have friz beyond belief, I keep getting my rug hook stuck in them and then the curling and unraveling thing. I think my dreadies want me to finish my head so they can dangle freely. Damn my precise dreads, damn them.

Someone who's not computer-retarded definitely needs to make a dreadlock hairstyle for that stupid icon-person-maker-thingy.

'cause we all know text-only is boring... here are some goofyish recent picturesCollapse )

Hi everyone,

I took out the little dreads I had at the front of my head few months ago to give myself bangs/a fringe. The plan was to let that part grow out until it was long enough to be dreaded again and look decent, but I actually really like the way it looks now and may keep it.

I wash my dreads about every other week, depending on whether or not icky things get in there without my consent or not. But my un-dreaded hair is really greasy just as it was before I dreaded it, and I was that every other day at last. Does anybody else with bangs/a fringe have the same experience? Should I now be washing my bangs because it might screw up my scalp? Should I be using dread shampoo or regular conditioning shampoo? I had to condition at first because it was all damaged and gross.

saying hi. [22 Jun 2004|06:57pm]
so, i'm -technically- a new member, though i've commented a time or two and been watching for a decade (or so).

here's the part where i introduce myself officially:
my name's laura and i'm from canada. i'm... (counts on fingers)... 18 years old (almost 19 = old enough to drink legally in canada, yay!) and my dreadies are almost 6 months old. should i throw a half-birthday party? yes, i think so too.
my dreadies are currently adorned with some wooden beads which have been there since week 2, and some plasticy little stars which are a recent addition. i had a silver star charm which detached itself... it will soon be reattached along with a tiny silver key.
i have to admit. besides thinking dreads are gorgeous, i actually decided to get them myself so i could put things in them. i always wanted to be able to attach things in my hair... weave them and thread them and wrap them. and so here i am.

this place makes me grin a hundred times. i love talking to all you dread-heads and i'm always delighted to see photos of everything pretty. (i also have to mention how astounded i was when i read the shoutouts... you forget what a large world we have and how intertwined we've all become.)

i really wanted to get dreads this summer.

is there ANYONE in the RHODE ISLAND/ MASS area, willing to dread my hair for me? I kind of want medium size dreads.( like the girl who posted before me!) I know, you can do it on your own and all, but i'd rather have someone else do it, because im not so good with hair and whatnot. I dont have any experience. I'm also willing to pay a reasonable amount of money for whomever does it for me.

dah. my dreads and i are not getting along very well right now :|

nothing is really wrong with them. the roots are coming together better than what they usually do, and i have been getting lots of nice comments on them.... they are also growing, they feel much longer.

BUT! last night i held a pair of scissors to my head! i was going to chop them all off! somehow i didn't do it. i dont know what stopped me.

sometimes i just feel like shedding off something. i know i'd regret it. especially in the winter. i cant wait for winter. :|

my dreads and i are weird! :(

The Mark Bear (x-posted to tgrupert) [22 Jun 2004|11:51pm]
amazingrando (my girlfriend) is going off to Costa Rica to save the rain forests for three weeks so I made her a Mark bear. My preschool students LOVE the mark bear and are excited to see pictures of the mark bear in Costa Rica saving the rain forest. My boss wants me to make a couple more so the kids can take them on vacation and take pictures of the bear and we can turn it into a book. We will also include letters written by the Mark bear.

I don't know if you can tell, but all the beads in the bear's hair are placed where the beads in my hair are.

Just as a reminder I run dreadpiratebar, a community for dreadlocked pirates.
