[31 Aug 2004|01:27am]
So i read the memories and am curious to know if anything strange will happen if i go swimming in a chlorinated pool. a local pool that is. because i havent been in aaaaages. I was thinking of just risking it and taking the plunge but eh..thought i would ask anyone here if they've done it. if anything happened to your hair.

A friend has asked me to "fake" dread her hair. Thing is, I only know how to start the process of real dreads...

Does anyone here know how to make these fake dread thingies?

hi again [31 Aug 2004|04:27am]
So my new camera arrived in the mail today... It reminded me that I have yet to take any of those wonderfully cliched mirror self-portrait photos...

... so take a look at me

Got, Get, But No One Grows [31 Aug 2004|09:02am]
[ mood | amused ]

Stran'ge but I've always felt like dreads were like plants and children.
One of the first phrases I was taught about them is

dreads GROW from your heart not from your head

I remember reading a book on them back in the day. It spoke of dreads GROWing in 3 phases; Infancy, Teens, Adult. I'm sure most people are a little shocked to find out they get smaller as they GROW, unless you let them GROW together.

Mongo Dreads are left alone to GROW as they want. Although I might be allowing my hair to dread I know that I'm not the true designer of them. I let them play as they want to. I just feed them sometimes but I don't break apart the locks. That would ruin the roots.

It might hurt my heart.

But under no circumstance do I get dreads. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. Get would require something of an effort, a bag, and something that is man-made and fake.

Nature doesn't GROW fake tings. Nature GROWS organic tings.

I've often associated dreadlocks with strength, resolve and an inner calm.
Dreadlocks who I've met who are part of the problem grind of life I tend to call

wolves wearing sheep's clothing

but I never say cut your hair

Fungus Locks? [31 Aug 2004|10:42am]
[ mood | happy ]

http://www.nnfcc.co.uk/crops/info/henna.htm

I've just been reading up on henna dyes and I've come accross some interesting information regarding the properties of the plant. Apparently, it is a 'potent' fungicide. So, if you happen to get any growth on/in your locks this might be worth checking out.

Leaves contain an important cosmetic dye. The principal colouring matter is lawsone (2-hydroxy 1,4 - napthaquinone) which has also been used as a tropical sunscreen. Lawsone is also a potent fungicide, superior to some commercial agents. Hot climate henna is said to contain more lawsone than temperate - grown henna.

I'm getting my hair dreadlocked this Saturday (woo!) and plan on dying it with henna after the first wash. I've also read that it may dry out your hair making it prone to tangling and knotting up. While this may not be too good for most folk, I'm sure you folks would appreciate this property!

Well, I guess what people said was true. Wax can cause mold, 'cause it did in my hair. It wasn't fun washing out either. Oh well, i'll never use wax again!

Well, for people who say wax doesn't cause mold, it caused mold for myself. It was hell, but my dreads are all better now. Don't use wax.

bleach [31 Aug 2004|01:05pm]
[ mood | optimistic ]

well i cut my dreads... i've had them for over a year... they were SO long at the begginning, then my girl cut 6" off a month ago, then friday it was about a billion degrees here so i put 'em in a ponytail and my man cut the ends off. now i have cute bobby dreads and my neck feels so cool! i hope to soon upload pics of every level.
hey somebody tell me about bleaching dreads, i have a bleach kit but i'm weary about getting that crusty stuff inside the napps and not getting it out again. but i really like the look of the gradiated lighter ends.
gracias companeros!

MOD POST (yes again...) [31 Aug 2004|03:37pm]
[ mood | in need of a cookie ]

She's ALIVE! ALIVE! THE MOD-INATOR LIVES!

And I'm a bit ragged today.

I've been running around a bit trying to quiet mini fires in the community.

Everyone... breathe. And remember "Frankie says relax."

*sigh*

If someone believes your hair is fake then that's an opinion. I can't ban people for having different opinions. I don't know about you but I'm chocked full of opinions that are more heated than the way my hair looks. Talk to me about war, abortion, sexuality, religion and life and we can argue all night. Doesn't mean I'm right or wrong. It means that I like to rant. Tell me via internet you don't agree with the defintion I've given for my style of hair and I shrug it off.

The way I see it is this: If they don't agree, talking rarely changes it. And arguing makes the Mod-inator sad. Then sometimes I smash. Heads. Your heads.

Personally, I'd like it if people would REFRAIN from starting conversations just to define other people's hair but I can't make it a rule. I can say I will read those types of posts carefully and I might get a bit delete happy. I'll try not to. I do think that if a person becomes a growing problem (name calling, rude comments, trolling) I will have to ban them. No one has reached that point but a few have been red flagged. To them... go eat a cookie.

On the same side, I'd like it if people were a bit more thick skinned and let comments drop. Usually whoever says it doesn't know you, your reasons for locking or anything about your situation. They are shooting in the dark and you're getting highly upset about it. Why get offended? You too should eat a cookie.

Conclusions? No one can argue if you've all eaten your cookies as instructed.

Thus said the Mod-inator!

Hellooo dreadfolks! [31 Aug 2004|08:44pm]
[ mood | creative ]

My names Tamar, im a 17 year old gal from Israel, iv been watching this community FOREVER while admiring all of your wonderfull locks!

So the story goes like this, after chopping all of my hair off (three years ago) i swore to get dreadlocks soon as i had enough hair to do so. I finally had the guts yesterday (in the middle of a jethro toll (scuss me for possible misspelling) show, i saw some amazing dreads and decided to do the dirty deed..
corrently, i have 4 dreads, my friend Shon started dreading my hair yesterday and fell asleep in the middle so ill have to wait until tomorow for the rest.. im not dreading my whole head either (just three rows allong the top, which makes it half of my head), this will allow the half-curly frizzy mess that is my hair to stick out and turn my hair into the wonderfull, big, black mess it is.

and i love it!

the reason im posting this is to thank all of you for the wonderfull inspiration you guys were to me and for the great tips on how to perfect my lovely locks.

p.s: i wish i had a digicam to show off my mug, but i dont - so you can just scroll up to see my icon (its Jet girl from the *ahem* best comics ever) her hair looks just like mine, hopefully thatll help.

thanx again!,
Tamar.
