Swimming.

Is swimming bad for dreads? I know swimming in the ocean is good (which I did last week. And also got an awesome sunburn.) But anyway. As I posted earlier in this community, I do quite a bit of swimming. I dry my hair really well, only concern is, is it really bad for my dreads? Does swimming make my hair come lose, and give me more frizzies?

I did some work on a few of them tonight. When I have some time, I'm going to do a lot of backcombing.

And here are my 2 month old dreads.

a few questions from a dreadhead wannabe.

i'm counting down the days! i've been fretting over whether or not I really want to do this, and I do. i've wanted them for years, and if i don't do it during my crazy college days when will i ever do it?

I'm sure it varies, but on average, how many inches does your hair 'lose' when you knot it up? i ask because i'd really like to be able to put them back right away. for reference, most of my hair is between 12-16 inches long.

also, i want to leave my bangs, which are long and side-swept. does anyone have a picture of themselves or someone else with dreads and bangs?

one more thing. i part my hair on the side and have for years. can i keep my side part, or will it just make the dreads on the part stick up like crazy?

VA dread heads?

so anyone live in VA that would want to dread my hair??
I've been a member for a while and have been planning on doing it myself but it just keeps not happening. :) I can't think of a whole lot of things more boring than sitting by myself for hours while my arms turn to jello several times over. Now, sitting with someone (or several people) who is/are interesting and listening to good music and laughing and hanging out, that sounds like a good time. :)
Any takers?
I make excellent brownies :)
ps I'm in Charlottesville but I have no issues traveling several hours :)
