overdue pictures - I took my dreads to see the pyramids. [03 Feb 2006|04:52am]
[ mood | tired ]

I thought I had already posted these, but then I went looking for one of them and realized I didn't even have them uploaded. I blame jet lag... or something.
This was right after Christmas, on the same trip as Budapest.

pictures from EgyptCollapse )

The five month mark was January 23rd. I've tried a couple of times since to get some decent pictures of them, but its just not working out heh.

hey,
i havent been in this community long so if the subject was trouched im sorry to bring it up again. But...

Ive been growing dreads for a little over a year now. But as for the past few months some have been growing out considerebly thinner.

Do dreads contribute to hair loss? or whats the deal?
thanks,
joe

palmrolling making hairs looser [03 Feb 2006|12:50pm]
am i imagining things or is the palmrolling technique making my locks looser?

right after ripping and twisting or backcombing (i use/used a combined technique), i palmroll and it seems like it just loosens what i had orginally tightened. maybe it is because i haven't washed them yet? i have had them since monday (and i know locks take the ultimate patience), and i also work at a greasy pizza shop...if that may have anything to do with them loosening.

btw, i finally took out all of the bands, too.

does anyone have any advice? thanks so much!

Knotty Boy Removal Kit [03 Feb 2006|01:21pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

Has anyone tried or done any research about the Knotty Boy Dreadlock Removal Kit? I generally stay away from Knotty Boy because I feel that it's unnessecary and overpriced, but I was looking for listings of salons where I could go to get them removed that had experience with dreads. I really doubt this product could magically undo my dreads as it claims it can, but maybe it's worth a try so I don't have to cut my hair quite as short.

(sorry to be boring and text only, but I don't have any new pictures from last time I posted.)

I never want to see another comb again after this }: [03 Feb 2006|01:38pm]
Just thought I'd keep you guys updated on the combing-out front.
So far I've combed out six and put them into braids. I've still got 22 more to comb.
I found out the reason washing with hot water and dishsoap over and over wasn't working was because the soap just made the wax go all flakey which stuck in my hair even WORSE. It's totally disgusting especially near the roots where the wax seems to have collected (and it likes to melt on my scalp and make it itchy) and then all the waxy gunky flakes get combed down the rest of my hair. It looks like REEEEALLY terrible dandruff. Blech.
big pictureCollapse )
Anyway I'm just excited to get it all combed out so I can bleach it and dye.
But man this is taking foreverrr. Have a good friday everybody.

okay. so iv had my locks for roughly a year, and im starting to notice a weird funk when i smell them

i wash my hair at least once a week usualy twice, but other than that i keep it dry so i dont think its mold, i cehcked out the memories and couldnt find a whole lot to help me out, other than apple cider vinegar, and backing soda, but that seems kind of sketchy, has anyone tryed these methods or does anyone have any other good ways to get rid of the smell.

Dread Salons in Toronto Ontario [03 Feb 2006|05:07pm]
Have been part of this community for a while and i'm going to take the dread plung since i'm now ready :) I'm having problems finding salons in T.O. that have a good rep and do a good job. Or - does anyone know anybody who does them semi-professionally?

Thanks

[03 Feb 2006|05:20pm]
quickk question.

i've been itching to dye my dreads with henna, and this
(http://www.kalyx.com/store/proddetail.cfm/ItemID/28892.0/CategoryID/10500.0/SubCatID/730.0/file.htm)
is the henna i'm getting.
HOWEVER...
the word "conditioner" in the name of it troubles me.
is all henna conditioning, and this one just likes to say so in the name, or should i get a different brand?
my dreads are about two months old and pretty tight and solid for their age, but i wouldnt want to put them at risk just because i'm getting this type of henna for free.

thanks!
