i think there a post in here recently inquiring about backcombing just roots and leaving the rest of the hair to dread naturally, and if i remember right, someone volunteered to try it. has it worked?

my hair is about shoulder length now (my icon is old) and i haven't brushed it in ten days. but the way clumps are forming, i think i may go nuts if i let it all divide itself. i may be better off if i give the sectioning a little direction. though i hate to use rubber bands, does it seem like it would be a good idea to put them near the roots for a time just to keep the sections separated? whadda y'all think? thanks.

(edit) has anyone gone the natural route and ended up hating the placement of the sections?

that's a large polish plait on display in a museum in poland.

I was doing some wikipedian wandering and stumbled upon polish plaits. apparently, having a single dreadlock, called a "polish plait" because they were particularly popular in poland, was a big thing in some parts of europe. it was thought they helped cure illnesses or something. I never knew about this! does anyone have any more information on it?

7 months old =)

It never fails! Every month when I get my dreads touched up, I get excited and take pics cuz of how good (I feel) they look and how much (I can tell that) they've grown. heehee

They're 7 months old, now. What do y'all think?

newbie help

OK, I hope some of you dreadheads can help :)

I'm a dread newbie, and after a day of sectioning and backcombing by my dutiful boyfriend yesterday I now have a head full of wannabe dreads :) However I'm a little worried about how they look. They are kinda.. fluffy and not very rope-like, more like thick tubes of matted hair and I want a more "dread" look already..

I've looked at the memories but can't find much to help (but pointers appreciated). Is the next stage for me lots of palm rolling? I've made dreads out of fake hair before and I would just twist it up and blast the hell out of it with a hairdryer to melt it sealed.. obviously can't do that with real hair, would wax achieve the same effect? After looking at the memories on wax I'm kinda loath to use it.

Any help would be really welcome ..

well, i'm new on here, and with a slightly strange question. has anyone ever had a dread that keeps gettin skinnier and skinnier towards the roots? one of mine is and i'm kinda worried it might get so skinny it falls off. which wd not be a gd thing :( any suggestions? i've had dreads for about 10 months now, and part from this havent had any problems with them at all.
