shorter? how is this possible? [07 Nov 2006|11:51am]
hello everyone!

I'm procrastinating, so I figured I'd update here. A few things have happened since I last posted, so I figured i'd let you all in on it!

First, I've been accepted to the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK for the spring semester. This means that I will be going to school in England from January til June. I hope to meet some of you guys while I'm abroad!

Also, I have fixed up my ends. I was trying so hard not to do it, but after months and months of impossibly skinny ends that I could tell were too thin to ever dread up, I went back with a comb and backcombed to the point where I really didn't have any loose ends anymore. I think the fact that the rest of my dreads have matured was the main reason this was so effective, and I am so happy about it.

However, it also means that I have lost yet another couple of inches of length. I'm hoping that will be the end of my loss of length, and now they'll start growing.

here's a little picture update on my life and my hair, as well as some dread-related art!

So, has anyone got any tips on dying dfreads?

I dyed mine purple last night (just the tips and a few inches), but don't have any pix as of yet.

I used Smart Colour to do it, which in the past worked a treat...i managed to dye my almost black hair to flourescent pink, without bleachinng it! But it doesn't seem to work as well now I have dreads. I was thinking it's because its hard to seep into the dreads but I'm not sure.
Any tips for when I re-do it? Probably in a few weeks...an also on how much I should dye it? I don't want brittle dreads that snap off!

Thank-yar xXx

lint/whatever it is [07 Nov 2006|03:28pm]
I'm going to ask a really divvy question, is bicarbonate of soda the same as baking soda? Because I can find bicarbonate but not just something called baking soda so I'm hoping they're the same thing.

I've found a build up of grey/white stuff in some of the bigger knots in my dreads, it doesn't smell and isn't damp or mouldy so I think it might just be lint and crap collected in my fatter dreads, I'm thinking from reading the memories section that a good rinse with this baking soda solution thing might give them a more thorough clean. I've tried just picking some of it out but it's fiddly. Any other advice or recommendations would be very welcome.

also a completely non-dread related amusing photo for you all. Some of my friends got married at Glade festival this year and I was official wedding photographer. Men in dresses..mmmhmmmm;

I read the memories about dandruff solutions, but I'm not sure if my situation is the same. rather than having flakes, I noticed a sort of build up on my scalp what when I itch it breaks free and looks like dandruff- pershaps this is the same thing, but because i never had dandruff before, I don't know. I am afraid to actually put my head under the pressure of my showerhead, and don't wash very often because of a traumatic experience with them before hand. The last time I washed, a week ago, I used a pair of nylons over my head and rinsed with a cup rather than the showerhead. Should I try the showerhead, or soaking in the tub and rubbing at the scalp, using T-gel or something. I'm sorry this was text only. Please help!

so, i think on friday i'm going to comb out my seven-ish month old dreads. i've checked the memories, but there doesn't seem to be any additional tips other than the soaking in hot water, lots of conditioner, and hot oil and/or baby oil. are there any products that anyone would recommend, or any lifesaving tips i've totally missed out on. any help would be appreciated.

hope this finds you all well.
