Okidoki kiddos, it was just abou ten days ago I took a trip to seattle to see our one and only Lish. Here's
what we started with:
I'm so happy I finally got dreads! It was socking to see my curly hair go, after 6 years of doing nothing to it. I was too afraid of change. I'm glad I got over that hurdle because I love my hair.
Here is a link to it as I am too computer simple to know how to post the actual picture...Harharhar....
I don't think they look bad, though some man was blatantly laughing at me from inside his car.....hmmmm....
*yes I used some wax...don't hit me...I like the smell of it*
I'm sorry for posting such a basic question, but I'm just starting out on my dreads and I'm a tad nervous about doing it badly or just dead wrong. I read through the memories and decided that I will probably try backcombing and palm-rolling to get them started, maybe with a little help from my aloe plant. (My hair is super-straight and soft) I'm just not sure I've got the idea right, so I just want to clarify the basic process.
So ... you take sections of hair, and use a fine tooth comb and comb hair backwards starting at the root(?) to create snarls. Then you take the section and roll it between your palms. How many times do you do it? To you backcomb and then roll and then backcomb and roll some more, or you you backcomb and backcomb and backcomb and then roll, roll, roll? How many repetitions? Until you're satisfied? And then do you secure each dreadling? Like with a little rubber band at the top and bottom, so they stay separate? Or ... what?
Thanks so much for any tips you can offer. I feel like I'm about to embark on a major journey but I'm not quite sure what to pack yet.
I just started my dreadlocks, they are two or three weeks old. They've mostly formed naturally from washing only with water and not brushing, but i've been palm rolling them a little. I'm not sure if there is anythign else I should be doing to them (I've looked through the memories but am still not sure which applies to ym hair type and how my dreads are coming so far), but I'm concerned because the sections are really messy. Just thought I'd post a few pics and see if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks!
my hair's considerably thinner, but it's still there...
Peace & Love,
