Looking for help in the future...

So I'm looking for someone help me do my dreads. I'm still a few months off to the appropriate length, but it's 3AM and the Lost 2nd season DVD's just aren't as entertaining the fourth time around. So why not ask now?

Anyways...I need help with doing my dreads. My hair is about 3 inches (maybe more, maybe less) right now, and I want to start at about 6 inches mostly because from what I've heard, that's the best length to start at. I would ask my friends, but my friends suck at these kinds of things and have the collected attention span of a gold fish. So the question being...is there anyone in this lovely community from Michigan that would be willing to help a complete stranger start their dreads in a few months? I live in Macomb County, but would be willing to travel as far as Grand Rapids.

So yeah...any help would be greatly appreciated, and I wouldn't have a problem paying for services rendered and supplies.

Good morning to everyone, and keep up the work on the those lovely dreads you all have!

nice comments

three weeks ago, i started working at a small women's college in the south. of course, terrified that i would be an outcast and have people making fun of me. (kind of like being in middle school again.) but honestly, it's been wonderful. i've gotten multiple compliments on my hair, the best being today. i was standing outside having a cigarette, and a black woman came up to me and said, "your hair is so cute! you're only the second white chick i've seen with dreads. that's what's up! that's what's up!"

i'm still smiling from it.

ok so

back in high school i had dreads for about four months. I was the choreographer for the musical and the lead dancer broke her ankle 3 weeks before the premier so, because i had made a commitment to the musical i had to comb them out. i have a few pictures of what they looked like.

Made me smile

So, I work with young people. I deliver workshops on sexual health in schools, colleges, youth centres etc. My dreads are always commented on, questions asked etc., but today a 16 year old lad in a tracksuit (bit of a chav) said:

"I really like your hair! It really suits you, you don't see many women with hair like that, it's great."

It made me smile, it was nice to get something other than "do you wash it?".

Just thought I'd share.

That's it, felt like it was time to post.

happy birfday!

Never have really been active in this community.

I do take time to look at all of your lovely dreads though.

And I thought it'd be a good time to have everyone join in the 2 year birthday celebration of my babies =D

oh, and I just moved to Prescott, AZ, from Detroit, so if anyone wants help with their dreads in exchange for tying all my loose hairs in, lets do eeeeit.

just a thought

Why do some people at school call ME, [a white girl] a nasty hoe 'cause I have dreads,
but don't bother the black kids about it?!?! =\

I've gotten so many things.
"Ewwwwww, she doesn't liek, wash her hair omg"
"Eww it looks gross"
"Ewwwwwww she needs to comb her hair"
"Ew dreads are sooo nasty"
Someone even called me a "clown whore" once? Go ahead, try and make sense out of that one!! lol. 'cause i definitely could not.

It doesn't bother me in the least bit, I know people are cruel like that.
But....theres 2 black kids at my school with dreads and they NEVER catch hell.

what the hell?

oh! on a much more POSITIVE note,
my baby dreads turned 1 month old on the 13th.
it's been a love-hate relationship so far, but more love than hate, otherwise they wouldn't still be there =)
ahhh i really do love those guys <3
