wrapping dreads

I looked in the memories and didn't see any posts about wrapping dreads. So, I thought I would post this...

A friend of mine said that when she dreaded her hair she wrapped all the dreads. She took the wraps out 7 months later and her dreads were nicely formed.

My question is...do you think this is a good method for locking dreads or do you prefer to leave the dreads to their own devices? I'm wrapping one dread just for shits and giggles. I've been debating if I want to do them all (in different colors and whatnot).

What do you all think?

Have any of you ever used that Knotty Boy anti-dread stuff? I just got it in the mail today and I'm a little nervous. I never used any wax for my dreadies, they're just products of neglegience and a little rolling here and there. It says that the shampoo is used to get rid of the wax, and the conditioner is used to soften the dreads and help you untangle them. Should I just use the shampoo anyway to clean it up? Ehhh, I don't know. I'm too sick to think.
