New [28 Feb 2008|12:37am]
Hi, my name's Michelle and I'm new to this community. Some months ago I did some research on dreadlocks and kind of tried it out but became too impatient (I'm one of those people who has to change their hair every two days). However, the other day I was backcombing my hair just to make it big and frizzy and realized that I really do wish to have some dreads.

I was skimming through the memories and whatnot and realized that my biggest problem is probably that my hair is too soft.  I'm excited to try out all the suggestions.  :]

Anyway, I would also like my dreadlocks to be really small and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about having small dreads. Are there any complications with have having small dreads? Anything I should know or do?

Also, there was a post about layered hair and dreads in the memories but I wasn't allowed to read it for some reason so I was wondering what people have to say about it. I'm thinking about waiting a few months to dread my hair because it's a million different colors right now and I kind of just want to grow it out and start over and I was thinking about having it layered more when I had it cut.

Um, this may be kind of controversial but what happens if you use regular hair products to dread your hair? Like, just regular hairspray and stuff? I know that they have nasty chemicals and all of that but how does it end up working out in the end?

Alsoalsoalso, where can I buy tams? I don't want to buy them online because I want to be able to try them on and stuff. I live in Davis, CA so I was thinking, like, Berkeley or San Fran. but I never really travel that far and to do so and come up empty handed would suck. What kind of store sell them?

Thank you in advance!

Does anyone know of a place to go to/someone who would be willing to do dreadlocks in the Orlando/Cocoa Beach, Florida or New york area? How much do you think it would cost?

I'm taking a trip down for my 21st birthday to Florida to meet my father and I can't think of anything I'd rather do for my birthday than get dreadlocks ;). Thanks, guys!
