Hair fun. [06 Mar 2008|04:04am]
I really prefer when my dreads have some curl and shape to them, and I may have found the best way to do this finally! I have tried hot sticks hair rollers (nice, but doesn't last), sponge rollers (uncomfortable), and braiding three dreads together (very uncomfortable). The trouble is that my dreads are on the thick side, so they can't be rolled up like skinnies, and they need to have some help with holding a curl.

I have tried mousse (white stuff in dark dreads, yuk!), setting lotion (flakes after it dries)and hair gel (sticky and smelly). I bought some aloe gel (it does have alcohol in it, I may look for something more natural) and used that, which works great! It holds the curl without being sticky, and I'm sure it will wash out much better too.

Then I cut lengths of thick hemp twine and used that to braid my hair, after putting a squirt of aloe gel on each dread. It looked kind of interesting:

I love the way it turned out!Collapse )

High profile job + Dreads [06 Mar 2008|10:02am]
I know when you do a major thing to your hair the biggest question is, "Can I get a job?".

On my way to work I saw a businessman with a bunch of other bussinessmen, probably going to brunch together. This man had long bottom-of-the-back, very maintenanced, and thin dreads. He looked like he was somebody important at the company.

Proof that you can have a very good job AND have dreads.

In other news, I combed by dreads out some time ago. Had issues with mildew and couldnt get it to go away :( but they where only a month and a half old so I'm not to sad. I will have new ones soon!

i'd like to see dreads that started out short [about chin length and shorter]
that ended up growing into long beauties! :]

please and thank you,
if anything, this is inspiration, so please help out!

Maturity! [06 Mar 2008|04:45pm]
[ mood | rejuvenated ]

Recently, i’ve realized that my dreads have finally “matured”... or so it seems.
I’m ecstatic.
It’s been a patient 20 months.

in the spirit of video education ;) [06 Mar 2008|06:55pm]
I didn't include the lovely video of 'how to extend a dreadlock' since it's already in the memories. I found these goodies last night (4), there's one on how to use a crochet hook, needle, the tangled web that will weave and it being pulled apart (I wish they showed more but it's a promo), and a decent maintenance vid till they break out the wax and rubber bands...

for all you visual learnersCollapse )
