combining dreads

I did check the memories, and I have read Lish's and everyone else's descriptions, but I really do need pictures. Can anyone help me with the carpet needle method, apologies for sounding a bit dense.

Thanks in advance.
rocking out

hello hello all.   :D

my name's patti, i am 19 (soon to be 20) and i've had dreadlocks in the past.

my mother wanted me to chop em off for high school graduation, and i did to make her happy, and since then i've been on and off deciding whether or not i should get them back.

it was awesome having dreads. it feels like your children, almost! hahah.

i did a very good job with upkeep, palm rolling and backcombing every other day or so. they looked pretty nice. had em for about 6-8 months, can't remember exactly.

so now i've come to the conclusion, i want them back! i got a new job back in october and i wasn't sure how a doctors office would handle "weird" hair. so i dyed my hair some colors to test them, like orange and pink, and they didn't mind, only as long as it wasn't my WHOLE head that was crazy, y know?

so a few nights ago, i started with two dreads. one on each side of my head, underneath behind my ears.

now, onto the questions. :D

dreads update!

Hello all, I posted here with my brand new dreads 3 months ago and I am back to give an update on how they are doing.
First of all, I am really happy I took the plunge and decided to have dreads. The consensus from all my friends and co-workers is that they suit me, so that was a nice ego boost. They are still loopy and messy in places but they have not come undone. The roots are locking up well. I have about a centimeter of undreaded hair at the base of each one, but the next 5cm or so is getting really solid. Been washing them once a week with dr bronners rose liquid soap and then doing the last rinse with salty water. I wash the loose bit at the front a couple more times a week as it seems to get greasy quicker than the rest.

Thanks so much to everyone who gave me advice on how to look after them, and the memories here have been a massive help.

I read a few things here about people having weird assumptions made about them because of their hair, well I have one from the other week.
I was eating at a pub and ordered the borlotti bean bruschetta. The waiter looked all concerned and told me "you do realise the beans have bacon in the sauce" I was like, great, I love bacon, but it made me wonder if I look like a stereotypical vegan or something? I tend to wear felt clogs, no makeup and have hennaed dreads, but I love meat, haha.

I'm Jo, 19, currently living in Grand Rapids, MI.

My dreads are anywhere from 3 weeks to brand new (I did the back today-I was waiting for the hair to grow out a teensy bit more) No wax, just a comb. I spritz my hair with water, sea salt, and lime juice. I love them!
