Garrus FACTS

Just, arg

I've had my dreads since last September (so about 9 months) and I'm starting to get really, really frustrated with the back of my head. While the front dreads look FANTASTIC, pencil-thin and all gorgeous knottiness, the back is, to use a phrase from an ex-roommate, a complete rats nest. Now granted, part of this is my own fault as I tend to wear my hair in a (very loose) ponytail most of the time to keep it off my neck and this rubs them all together. But the crown and very back of my head seems to be one big mess of tangly hair; there's no rhyme or reason to it that I can see despite my attempts to make some semblence of order back there (yeah, it's dreads and I know dreads aren't about order, but still). I want ones in the back like what I have in the front but it doesn't seem as if my head agrees with me; they're all starting to clump together in giant masses and don't like it when I try to pull them apart. More often than not it seems I make it worse... *headdesk*

I'm all alone in this - no local hairdresser or friend who'd be willing to help with my hair and a distinct lack of dexterity when it comes to reaching back there. I'm seriously getting frustrated to the point of saying to hell with it and attempting to comb the back out, leaving just the dreadlocks in front. Then I come on this list and see all you beautiful people with these GORGEOUS dreads and get all angsty.

PLEASE someone reassure me this phase will pass!!! And does anyone have any tips on how to get a clumpy mess of hair that I can't see well enough to do much about to actually DREAD UP? It was doing so well in the beginning and then... Arg.

Hair Dyes

I have rather light blond hair, and I want to dye my hair with a Special EFX type dye, as in, not some l'oreal shit. Anyway, how completely will this dye ever wash out? I would like to think that my hair won't end up being pink forever after I've had the dye in for awhile. And if you think it will always sort of stay pink no matter how much I wash it, is there a type of colored dye that *won't* leave my hair pink forever?..

(no subject)

Well, I thought it's be cool to introduce myself, maybe this group will invigorate me to log on to my dead lj a little more ;)

I'm James, I live in Darwin, The Northern Territory, Australia...
That's about all really, My dreads are coming up to 14 months in a couple of days...

Two things!:

I guess I will end up backcombing atropine_nadia's hair! I'm planning on doing what was done with my dreads, starting up the back and making my way forward in a random pattern, but are there any specific tips (that I wouldn't already have found in the memories) you guys can offer?

WE ARE ROADTRIPPING either next week or the monday after next. Going up the east coast from florida to at least pennsylvania, as far west as we can get before we lose half of our money (haha, we are good planners). Anyone willing to put two mild-mannered indie kids up for a night (especially in Ohio..)? Short notice, but I thought it was worth a shot.
