I've been lurking here forever!

Hey guys I've been lurking for awhile and I've actually gone through a couple of sets of dreadlocks I just never had any pictues so I never posted. Anyway, I need some advice - right now I have moderately long dark brown hair (for a dude), and my goal is to end up with green dreads. I bought manic panic lightening bleach stuff and manic panic green electric lizard (or something like that) dye. My question is, should I dye the hair before dreading or after? I've heard that it's easier to dye brushable hair rather than dreaded hair. And if that is indeed correct by you guys, how long should I wait after dying it to dread it? Or does that even matter? Thanks alot in advance.

i stumbled upon this just now.
Needs Washing

edit:a message board provided me with this:
This man’s name is Eddie. He lives in Santa Monica, California, and he’s fairly well known in that town. I interviewed him for a film I’m making ( — you can see a short clip of his face in the opening sequence of the trailer). He’s basically a nice, unassuming guy who got dealt a bad hand and didn’t play it well

Kind of introductory post.
My name's Lexxi, I'm from Utah.
I'm going back to school in less than a week, and I'm preparing to dye my hair!
A few of my dreads are going turqouise quite soon.
I've been kind of warry of posting until I get a decent camera
but since I don't know when that will ever happen, here are some camera phone pics.
sorry in advance!

EDIT: Maybe I shouldn't dye them turquoise?
According to Lish's guide, it sounds like it'd be a bitch to keep the color from running into the blonde every time I wash. Any suggestions?

update-Almost 4 month old dreads

My dreads turn 4 months on September 12th. Well most of them do..I didn't do my whole head at one time but eh.
I recently went to Pirate weekend up at Alexandria Bay, NY. I loved it, there were a whole bunch of pirates and most of all dreads. I saw so many!
Here are a couple pictures of me there, sorry no pirate pictures-they didn't upload correctly yet.

I have dreads

I know that I have had dreads for more than a year, but most of that time, no one else seemed to notice. I got countless "are you planning to get dreads or something" questions, which made me very much aware that what I had was a knotty mess rather than actual dreads. Not that it really mattered much.

But suddenly something happened. A couple of months ago, random stoners started to say hello while passing me on the street, - it took quite some time before I realised that they weren't people I used to know, but that I had been included in some weird freak collective without knowing it.

When I was out on town the other day random (previously dreaded) people stopped and said "hey awsome dreads", and a bit dumbfounded, i replied that "well.... they're sort of new and it still looks more like a dog chewed on my hairs..." and i came home, and looked into the mirror and realised that sometime during the last 13 months they had turned into actual dreads. Not bad. Nice dreadies.

Age opinions

After flicking through the memories and alot of the advice being given to people about their young dreads, I was wondering what you guys would consider young to old dreads? Mere babies or ancient giffers where do you think yours are at?
