(no subject)

Hi, I'm Chelsea. I've been lurking this community for close to a year, debating on if dreads were for me..
I think my hair spoke for itself and has been naturally locking for the past two weeks or so. At this point, it's sectioned into waves, which can be broken apart (as in not knotty) but stick together for the most part. I plan on backcombing as soon as I get it the same color.

My only concern is that my hair is up all day every day. I go to culinary school and work two restaurant jobs... so it's under a tight cap during the mornings, and tied back at night. I'm really hoping that this won't inhibit the dread process too much.

Anyway, pointless intro post :]
cunt cake

nearly 6 months!

I'm not panicking or anything, but I don't know whether my dreads are coming along ok or not. This is not my first set, but I have never stuck with them for more than a couple of months before.
I posted here a few days after I started them, and looking at it now I am amazed how much they have shrank. I've also gone from 42 dreads to 35. Some I combined on purpose, others sort of ate each other.
I rounded off the tips the other night and I like how this has tidied them up.
However, I have a lot of loose hair at my nape and a few other bits all over my head. I'm not sure what to do about it. When they are more mature I could try and crochet it in I suppose.
I guess one good thing is none of them have unravelled, they seem to be staying seperate ok for the most part.
Anyway, pictures.

Rastafari and dreads

Are there any rastas here?
What are your thoughts on letting your dreads grow naturally vs creating them yourself?

I haven't combed my hair in more than a year and nothing's happening. It's frustrating me
i think the philosophy is more about letting your hair grow naturally rather than trying to achieve a certain look, but of course dreads are very important and have lots of meaning
but i have seen rastas whose dreads are too perfect to be the result of nature just taking its course

and anyone else whose motivation for growing dreads is to be natural - what are your thoughts? how does helping them along or working on them to make them look a certain way make you feel?
