double exposure

Happy 8 months!

I can't believe it is 8 months with dreads already!
I am feeling a bit twitchy, I gave up smoking 2 weeks ago and I still crave... I dreamed I was smoking last night and woke up this morning in a panic in case I'd actually done it.
I don't know why I'm telling you all this.
Oh well, on to the pictures!

Hey there, I've been lurking for a few days now looking at all your gorgeous pictures. I've wanted dreads for a few years now but I was waiting for my hair to grow a bit longer... this is how long it is now:

I do have a few questions though....

1. As you can see... I'm half asian... and we are known for our silky, slippery and thin hair and while mine is not pure feathery goodness, I still have a bit of that going on. I've heard many dreading methods don't work on us. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what method to use? Any recommended products?

2. I was heavily considering getting them professionally done as a christmas present to myself. I also don't know if I 100% trust my friends and their hair abilities... Anyone know any good places on the east coast (USA) more specifically NYC, DC/Maryland or Georgia?

3. If I decided to do them now... about how long do you think my dreads would be? How much hair length do I loose?

4. I want fairly thick-ish ones... any tips?

Anyways... thank you sooo much!
serpentine.

on dreads and smell,

i adore smelly things, and i looove to put smelly things in my hair. other than these oils (i slather myself in that crap), i have found that amber resin is AWESOME.

it melts on skin contact and is fairly light, i like to rub it into my tips.

its also nice because the smell is always being thrown into your face.

good stuff, just thought i'd share.

amber resin, here:

PS: i gave my dude man a dread mullet, and its hawt. should post pictures, but i'm lazy like that.

Well, you probably don't remember me but I did a really half assed backcombing job and about a week afterwards my hair just started getting looser and curlier....You guys convinced me to just let nature take its course and see what happened. It has been a little over three months now since the last time I brushed my hair, and I promised to update, so here are some pictures...

This was my hair last time I posted, about one week after my notso fantastic attempt at backcombing...

My hair has been getting knottier-it definitely still doesnt look like "typical" dreadlocks or whatever, but the point of dreads isnt really to be typical, so whatever. They amuse me.
