I just had to cut off about 4-5 inches per dread because they were so heavy.
The bag with the pieces weighs about a pound.
I was getting a slipped disc and I knew the only way to prevent it was to snip.
I cried and was really upset, but now that its gone I feel a lot better.
That part of my hair contained a specific part of my life that I don't want to carry with me anymore, especially if carrying it with me meant sacrificing my health.

tomorrow I'm going to brush out the tips (they are blunted and stupid looking now) and do a deep clean and hopefully by then I'll be 100%.

and because text only is balls, a shitty phone picture. I have no batteries for my dooo liiist!

Guy with dreads on campus

There's another white guy I see with dreads from time to time on my campus. I always see him walking to one particular class when I'm sitting on the benches in the first floor eating lunch. Well, the other day, he happened to walk by me close enough for me to snag him. I say, "Hey! How old are yours?" It's pretty funny that he knew exactly what I was talking about. He's like, "Nine months," which is exactly the same age as mine. His look pretty nice, so I ask him about them. He tells me he doesn't wax. Good, I say. He asked me how I take care of mine, and I say that I pretty much don't. I crochet once in a while, but that I used to do more when they were younger. And that's pretty much it. He asks me how often I wash and I say about twice a week and he couldn't believe it. He said, "Oh! I haven't washed mine for two weeks now." Different strokes. I'm not going to judge.
So anyway, he had to get to class, but this is our last week and it's finals time. I'm hoping I'll get to see him again, because I want to direct him here. He seems like he had a lot of questions and wanted to ask a fellow dreadhead if he was doing stuff correctly. I would also offer to be clean-up-dreads buddies. I haven't crocheted my loose hairs in for like 3 months. Once I quit my job, fuggadabudit.
Okay, image time. Hella ton.

21 Months.

My locks are now 21 months old. For the first time since their birth I am not happy with them. I know it's just a phase, but I don't like it. I have a crapton of loose hairs and they are just generally annoying me. I tried to crochet a few of them in today and I'm happy with the results. I have really just been letting them do their thing since their initial backcomb, so doing the little bit of maintenance I did today felt weird. I want them to be as natural as possible, but I am just unhappy with them right now.

I've been having a really hard time lately... My family is going through some major problems right now, so I think I'm just all around not happy, so it's affecting how I feel about my hair as well. I don't know. I just don't like much of anything right now.

Anyway, I know you're really here for the pictures, so here ya go. ^_^

New locks, almost a week old.

You guys probably don't remember me but I posted a failed attempt at dreads a few months ago. Well, my friend came over and over the course of a few days(she lives about 30min away so we had to do it in installments) and a total of about 6 hours.. I has nice almost knotty locks. I had no clue backcombing hurt so bad.. :(

I haven't been very active here in a while. :( I've been super stressed with applying/worrying about getting into college! hah, butttt!

My babies are turning 4 months old in a couple days! Most of the time I really love them, and a lot of the time I even forget they're there! :X haha They're just so much a part of me now.

Usually I get a lot of stink eyes and crazy looks from people, but as of lately I've been getting a lot of "your hair looks so cute!!" and "wow, your hair is really pretty!" which is weird because I don't really feel like they're changing/progressing, but I guess other people do! :)
