First time dread-head!

Hellooo! I'm Heather and I have brand new dreads! I've been wanting to do them for so long and I finally did it last week, with the help of my BFF ____maddie who is also a part of this community and has dreads! She did an amazing job and I love them so much. Almost as soon as Maddie was finished and I saw my dreads in the mirror, I felt a rush of excitement, confidence, and happiness. I'm so glad that I decided to go for it, FINALLY!

So yeah! I'm thrilled, if you haven't noticed. I've wanted them for so long that it's such a relief to have them. I'm totally ready for all the adventures, stares, compliments, insults, haters, and lovers. I feel so confident right now and I'm sure that it's because of my dreads. I've been in a huge funk for the past 5 months or so (winter weather, lack of sunshine & warmth..blah) but now I feel absolutely amazing. My boyfriend thinks they're super sexy and loves them too, which just makes me even more energized about them. I can't wait for them to grow and lock and tell stories. Yes....i hope my dreads learn how to talk.
I just want to like, build a nest up there and go chill in my hair for a little while hahah =P

Also on a sidenote, this community is wonderful! I've been lurking around for a few months and I found and learned everything that I needed to know! I love all the support and encouragement that's here as well. You'll be seeing more of me, I'll update with new pictures frequently as they grow!

Love, Heathaaaa

i brushed out my 5 year old dreads just before christmas. no one believed i could do it, but i did! it took about 5 months in total, and involved electric scissors, a lone crochet needle, a very small comb, lots of conditioner, about 50 giant hairballs and a very patient boyfriend.

thing is, about a month after i rediscovered livejournal, and of course, gudu! plus i haven't got into brushing my hair again - what a hassle - and now i really want dreads again! problem is, during the 5 years of having them i never could leave them alone - i was always picking, chopping or doing something untoward to them. if i'd just left them alone they would have been gorgeous and arse length by now!

anyway here are some pics. !!

Lol test dread?

A woman stands in front of the BATHROOM MIRROR.

ME: Okay, test dread time!

The woman picks up a DREAD COMB and begins to backcomb a small section of HAIR at her RIGHT TEMPLE.

ME: Hmm.

Satisfied, the woman WANDERS OFF.

The woman stands in front of her BATHROOM MIRROR again.

ME: ...hmm.

I'm on a frustrating search for an apartment in Ithaca but I live a few hours away and it's hard when I can't go look at places.
And I am bored with sitting here emailing people. SO that means an update.
That, and, my dreads hit a year on the 30th of March.
