the journey begins

so i dyed my hair red yesterday, and i've been wanting dreads for a while. and i went to reach for the conditioner that comes with it, and i looked in the mirror and saw how awesome my hair looked tangled like that and thought, "i'm doing this."

i can't wait. it's only been one day and i'm just so pumped. i'm so stoked to be on this journey and see my little babies mature and develop :D

i have a questions though... a few summers ago i didn't brush my hair for a week (just because i was lazy) and as you can imagine, i got a big tangled clump in the back of my hair. now once this starts to happen again, when i section, i don't really know how to go about doing it. someone told me that i should make my root of the dread like a square, and someone else told me to just grab as much hair you want for the size of the dread. AND furthermore, when is the right time to start sectioning? i'm confused on this whole thing. someone help? i really appreciate it, thanks! :D

The Sneeze

This has been posted elsewhere before, so I hope none of you are subjected to seeing it twice!
Life's been crazy.  Realizied (or came to terms with the fact that) I've been living in an abusive relationship for over a year, left my husband a while ago, was sleeping on a friends couch for a while, found a new place, still have to move.... But things are moving forward.
These were taken shortly before all of this started to go down.
I like how sneezes startle you from faraway thoughts... they're like a portal back into the real world!  Which is actually kind of shitty now that I think of it.  Maybe I don't like it.  It's just interesting!
My dreads were an Xmas gift from him.  They are more than that to me, though.  I will keep them.
I can't sleep, so thought I'd do a bit of GUDUing.

Main Entry:
Pronunciation: 'snEz
Function: intransitive verb
Inflected Forms: sneezed;
to make a sudden violent spasmodic audible expiration of breath through the nose and mouth especially as a reflex act following irritation of the nasal mucous membrane

So, a few weeks ago I woke up and realized I have dreadlocks.

Not those fluffy mats of hair I've been frustrated with for 8 some months, but real, locked, beat-you-up-when-you-try-to-headbang dreads.

well here's some pictures, I think my dreads are 7-8 months in most of them.

So about my shrinkage and length complaints.

It really just seems to be getting worse, to me. But hey, it means at least some of my dreads are maturing!
My roommate remarked to me randomly today that my dreads actually look like dreads up to one point at the front of my face, where there's maybe 3 longer ones.

But there's a definite difference when I put it half up. >.<
I'm just going to patiently wait until the longer ones catch up I guess!
They're apparently exactly 4 months now! Yey!

Hi everybody Im new here. My name is Josh and i've been wanting dreads for the past few years. I have short, maybe 1-2 inch long hair in the back of my head, and 3-4 in hair on the top of my head. I only want my dreads in the back of my head for now, incase I hate them I can just cut em off. Anyway I was looking up methods as to how to start them, and I was gonna try the I think brushing method, where you take the soft bristled brush and rub it on your head in circles and your hair will form knotts and whatever, well I did that last night for a while and my hair is just super poofy, I was wondering what you guys will think would be best. I dont have any pics so sorry!
