kitty in a basket

it's 4:32 AM it's time for perspectives.

hello out there. it's been a while, ya'll. lots of lovely new people coming here, which is great. feels like i was new here yesterday. i can't believe it's been since like jun 06. crazy. anyways, my hair is getting long. it's starting to get knotty if i let it. i'm pretty sure i wanna grow it out to a huge fro before i let it lock up. i'm kind of going for a macy grey drag look. will post pics when that happens.

New :)

I've wanted dreads for the longest time (at least six or so years). So in order to commemorate my move to Seattle from the uber-conservative outhouse facility known as New Jersey, I decided to finally go ahead and dread up :)

Funny too, as soon as I came here I overheard a girl at a gas station talking about this community. So I've been lurking around for a good month or so. :)

My boyfriend (who's been a dread head for the past 18 years! ) was kind enough to noodle me up. I can't wait to see how these buggers progress :)

baby dreads

I've fallen into the trend of constantly covering my baby dreads with a bandanna or beanie. Since my fringe and front strands aren't dreaded, it makes it look as though I have no dreads at all.

Exhibit A

After bleaching my dreads [only once; my naturally black hair requires several bleachings, but I'm digging the orange right now] and receiving my first bead as a gift [I named it V, for Valentine ^_^], I wanted to show off my babies instead of hiding them at a friend's party. The underside of my hair is still loose, so I just tied back my stronger dreads.

That was a close call...

For the past few days, I've been seriously considering chopping off my 2 1/2 year old hair ropes. I've just gotten kind of tired of looking at them and I've been having more bad hair days lately and my impulse kicked in full swing yesterday...

to dread or not to dread

Hello, I'm new here. My name is Saskia, 23 years old from The Netherlands. I've had dreads from age 16-20. I combed them out after 4.5 years. Now, 3 years later, I so want them again. But there's just something stopping me. I don't know, a feeling that I'm too old for it (???), scared it doesn't fit me anymore, afraid I won't get a job. Silly reasons I shouldn't think about.

This is how I used to look like:

and this is how I look like now; (my face changed a lot)
1, 2, 3, 4, 5

What do you think? Take dreads again or leave my hair the way it is now?

(ps please ignore my bad grammar)

Thanks a lot!
