Lish, please move to NY! [23 Nov 2009|03:38am]
A couple questions. I've read through the relevant memories first, and i've done some research in other places, but i'm still quite confused. And perhaps it would be nice for the community to have a consolidated place with all these answers.

1. What would be a reasonable price to pay at a salon/shoppe for dreadlock maintenance?
I found a hair salon in Soho yesterday that does dreadlocks. So i inquired about maintenance, they gave me a business card and a price quote of $100 for one session. They are very nice, they take people with all kinds of hair, and they seem to be on the earth-friendly trend.

2. Could i just go to a 'loctician' in my own neighborhood that might be cheaper ($60-100) but usually only does textured hair? (i have fine hair.)

3. What are some important things to know about your prospective lock-care professional before you sit down in his/her/hir chair? What questions should be asked?

Unrelated photo time: my friend and i are in a mustache war.

I just realized that with my bangs pinned up, it looks like i have normal hair. My mother will be thrilled!

Some pictures... [23 Nov 2009|03:53pm]
I went to visit my Grandma for her 80th birthday, just a quick visit to go to church with her and take her out to lunch after, and finally got some pictures of my hair (including a little hairdo for church) so, thought I'd post them!

They're about..er, 2 months now? Or maybe 3? I've been woefully neglecting them, so there's lots of loose hairs, kinks, curls, loops, and roots that just won't lock up at all, but, eh, they're coming along!

Here there be pictures...Collapse )

ETA: I went to see Powerman 5000 with my cousin in law because they were his favorite and I got to take a picture with this smokin' hot bassist from some band (can't remember, whoops) who not only was GORGEOUS but had great locks!

a few 11.5 month pics, and a really messy timeline [23 Nov 2009|07:26pm]
My dreads are going to be a year old on Dec 9th, so I thought I would post some pictures now because I know I'll forget then.
AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers

I love tickers because I'm horrible at keeping time. My really good friend, fathertoson recently came over and took care of a few of my loose hairs.
lots of pics under here, timeline of sortsCollapse )

So the dreadies are about 5.5 months old. I'm not loving them right now because some of the roots lay weird. I'm sure it's from throwing it in a pony/bun all summer because it was way too hot to deal with.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
