info and advice

Hi all, it's been a while since I posted last, and I'm sorry to say I have no pics for you- but I should be posting pics really soon as I am dyeing my hair tonight for the first time since dreading, and my one year mark is coming up this month(!!!) so..yeah.

Under the cut, I have posted an email I sent to a young teenage girl and her mother who were looking into dreadlocks (the girl, not the mother). They go to church with me and apparently the girl always admired my hair and she asked me for some info. I didn't really get a chance to talk to them so I got their email address instead. Apparently they were thinking of going to a salon to get them done "professionally." Well, I ended up sending them this email just now that is way longer than it should be, in which I gave them a lot of info and advice. Feel free to ignore or read on! :)

Just note that this entire email is based off of MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND RESEARCH concerning dreadlocks, and I'm not saying that this is the only way to go when it comes to dreads. I just thought it would be helpful for her to know how I got my locks and what I personally do to maintain mine. I also linked her to the memories page here, and

Sorry for the length. I suppose I'm just wondering if anyone thinks that's helpful for a noob or unnecessarily long. I mean, I could have left out a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with starting dreads and she won't need to know until further down the line, but I figure it's best for her to know what she's getting herself into. Also, she could have figured ALL of that out just by reading the memories here, but she doesn't have a lj (not sure if her mom will let her) and again, everything was based off of my personal experience. I also really wanted to give her some helpful advice, too. I don't even know this girl, but for her to come to me because she admired my hair just made me feel like an older sister or something, idk. I wanted to help her out. Who knows, I may end up helping someone backcomb their hair for the first time (for me, that is).

Anyway, I hope everyone's having a good day and enjoyed their summer! :)
