Hi everyone. I looked in the memories and didn't find anything helpful. The only thing I found on balding seemed to be more from the way the dreads part than anything else.
Today I went to the dr. because my hair is thinning. I thought maybe it might be a hormonal thing. She's going to do bloodwork but the dr thinks it's from my dreads. She said the dreads pulling on my roots could be causing damage to the follicles. I already have very thin hair to begin with.
Personally I don't know what to think. It seems mostly my bangs that are thin and those aren't dreaded. But the thinning is moving towards my dreads. My doctor suggested cutting them out. If I can avoid this I want to. I had planned on having my dreads for a long time (ie. 5+ years). I've had them for a year and a half and absolutely positively LOVE them beyond words. They're just so me! I honestly can't imagine not having dreads. I can see myself in my 80s and having them!
About how I care for them... I wash my hair about every 3 days with Suave Clarifying shampoo. I deep clean about every other month (baking soda, salt, lemon juice, and warm water). Sometimes I use Argan Oil to condition my locks (about twice a month) after washing. I dye them with good quality henna about every 3 months (lately I've only been dying my bangs which are the only part of my hair that's grey). The last time any maintenance was done on them was October (3 months). I do have extensions (though one recently fell out...poor baby). I do put my hair up in a loose pony tail or dread bun, especially when doing reiki on a client.( Collapse )
