Out in the street - they call it murder

I'm a little worried. After a shower, I'll be drying my hair, and squeeze the roots with my fingers, only to find a little gross greasy residue. I think it's probably the knottyboy shampoo which just isn't washing out. For a couple of weeks I've spending more and more time rinsing my hair, massaging the roots, squeezing them in running water, etc. etc. but no matter what I get this greasy reside in the roots of a couple of dreads. My hair smells fine, and once the hair dries I can't feel the residue, but I'm worried maybe I could get mold or sumptin this way. Any ideas on getting the residue out, or on whether it's dangerous?
