Lately I've been thinking a lot about cutting off my dreads. I know they're all about patience, but I really don't see how mine are ever going to be attractive. They are so bumpy and messed up, it seems impossible that a year from now, they could be smooth and neat. Here is a close up pic of some of my hair:

As you can see, I've highlighted some particularly bad spots. I would like some very honest opinions, from those of you who have had dreads for a long time. Mine are a little over four months old, and I had straight, fine hair. Did anyone's dreads look really really really bad at a beginning stage such as this, and then they turned out alright? I want to know if there's any hope or if I should just give up now. One idea I had was to cut them into an a-line, so I wouldn' t be cutting all of them off, just the ones in back, and then slanting the ones left. I had an a-line haircut about a year and a half ago and I quite liked it. I once saw a pic of a girl with a dreaded a-line and it was very nice.
