I'm new here and I have a question......

I found this community through a friend of mine and have been wanting to dread my hair for a little bit now. I have a couple of questions that I need answered to make my final decision.

1. I have very long (about 3-4 inches above my waist), thick and naturally curly. If I dread my hair, is it always necessary to shave your head to get them out, or can I salvage some of my hair? If so, how much do you think I might be able to salvage?

2. I have a problem with the skin disease psoriasis which usually attacks my scalp. I usually have it under control, however; when I go without washing my hair from time to time (which I often do so it will dry all the way), I notice some tender spots on my scalp that begin to itch and then eventually become sore. I can then use T-Gel and it clears up.

My question is this. If I dread my hair, would I have a more serious problem with this skin disorder being that the dreads are close to the scalp and don't allow it to breathe? And if so, would putting T-Gel underneath the dreads and working it into the scalp illiminate my problem?

I know it may sound weird, but I know that I can't be the only one that has this skin disease and wants to have dreads in their hair. LOL

Any information or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I want to do this to my hair as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone!
