Hey All, just thought I could share something useful that recently worked for me. I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to get rid of a wax buildup in my locs. I began my locs months ago using a wax that did not have the forbidden ingredients in it (petroleum, lanolin oil, mineral oil, etc), nevertheless, I still ended up with a wax buildup even tho I was using it sparingly. I hated the flecks of white that I could see in my hair, and the lackluster appearance my hair gradually took on.. I've been steadily using Doc Bronner's peppermint soap to wash my hair, but that didn't help.. I read somewhere in the Memories that dipping your hair in boiling hot water could work, but my hair is still short and I wasn't looking forward to trying that.. Then all of a sudden, I was doing some research on environmental injustices when I came across the Exxon Valdez oil spill of 1990 (or thereabouts) and I remembered the commercials of the relief workers using Dawn dishwashing soap to clean ducks and seals.
I tried one of the more pleasant scenting Dawn soaps (it was honeysuckle, something or other) and worked it into a good lather, then rinsed... Applied it again, scrubbing my hair ruthlessly, working up a good lather again, then I rinsed with hot water, then finished with cold water.. and miracle of miracles, there's no more wax buildup in my hair.
The only problem is that now my hair is dry as dust, so I've gotta find a residue-free moisturizer that will remedy that. But in the meantime, I just thought I'd share that and let everyone know that Dawn actually works.
