Im new here to livejournal and to this community. Started my dreads this past weekend. I grew my hair out from a shaved head begining August 2006. By this past weekend (nov 18) I could put my hair in my mouth. So anyways, I had a friend of mine come help me section it up and then I spent about 16 hours over the course of 2 days at home backcombing my hair. At times it was agonizing with the reaching, pulling, angles, combing cramps etc, but all in all, not that bad especially when you haves some good music to keep your spirits up. The back was pretty much already knotted up because for the past 4 months I never bothered to brush my hair. They've formed clumps of thick matted hair, some like perfect dreads, others just out of control. I'm leaving them alone to see what they will do. Oh... and as you can tell looking at the BEFORE pic down below, my hair is/was really really curly.
So here are 3 pics. Its been about 3 days since I finished backcombing.
I decided against rubber bands, wax and all that other stuff. Haven't really caught on to the 'palmroll' yet. I feel like I'm disturbing or going to pull apart what's there. Maybe it'll seem easier after the first washing.
Anyways so thats it. Sorry if pics aren't clear. Anyways this community is quite inspirational and very positive which i enjoi. I learned a lot from reading a number of your stories and hope that I can help others as much as you've helped me. Thats all I got. Any feedback or advice welcomed!
