Attaching Double-ended dreads

Hi all!
I have a question about attaching double ended synth dreads to my own dreads.

Yes, I have read the memories but the majority is about how to attach single-ended, and the only one I found about double ended was to normal hair, which didnt really help!

I have just purchased these beautiful things:

Which I adore!

I have specific problems with attaching them...
First of all, I know of two ways I can do this.

The first is to fold the synths over, and put an elastic band near the fold, creating a loop. This then slides down my own dread, down to the roots. Although I'm not so sure myself if they would be totally secure.

The second is to pull the synth through my own roots, until half way, then secure with an elastic band there.

Whilst I can handle the method, I have a specific problem: my dreads are quite fat, and just past shoulder length. Im worried that I'm going to look like a nonce with really cool synth dreads, and random brown fat ones poking out here there and everywhere.

Does anyone have advice on the best way to attach double-ended dreads into real ones, and the best method of not looking nonce-like?

Any advice is good advice! The memories just made me more frustrated!

Thanks all x
