I only posted here once before, so be prepared for
My boyfriend had his dreads done a few days before I did mine, so actually it's a timeline of the both of us. He had them done by a professional hairdresser, with a perm and all. I did mine myself, with just backcombing and palmrolling.
So, here we go!
This is what we started with:
I had a lot of quite thin blue hair, my boyfriend had a lot of natural brown very thick hair:
Well, then he got his done.
They were pretty thin and of course very curled. And sectioned in squares (which I don't really like)
Then I got really jealous and decided I wanted to go for it too! I wanted dreads for many years, but was afraid to take the plunge. Now I had a boyfriend with dreads it somehow felt like my time had come. So I started backcombing, and backcombing, and backcombing. A lot of hours (and bloodless arms) later, I ended up with this:
I decided (after reading a lot on GUDU) not to wash them for a month. They became really fluffy in that month.
Then we went to Barcelona, and I saw the most beautiful aquarium ever
And we went to see all the Gaudí stuff
Then we got home and I decided to bleach my hair (before going to the Sziget festival^^)
I hit the one month mark, and celebrated with a wash and a maintenance-day.
Then I decided to go pink and purple
This is how I usually wore it:
My boyfriends dreads were banging happily
Then I added some red to the purple and pink mess on my head
Doing some maintenance, trying to get the lower half to dread as well
My dear Spot wanted dreads too, so I decided to lend him mine for a day
The pink was washing out, so I tried to bleach everything, which didn't work very well
After ripping everything apart (which I need to do almost every week, but especially after dying). Ouch!
My first crocheting experience (trying to crochet a humongous loop into my dread, which worked out pretty well)
Well, what's life without Jellyfishin'?
Trying to do some "normal hair" stuff
My boyfriend, in the meanwhile, is trying to be tough
Then I dyed my babies red, which didn't work out very well either
So I tried again..
.. and again
But everytime it washed out in a couple of washes:(
Then I got tired of my loose ends, so I crotcheded(edededed?) them into my babies
I also wanted my bangs back, so I combed out 5 of my front dreads, which took me about 5 hours!:o
(Wow, it's weird to see how the color of my babies differs in different shades of light)
My boyfriends dreads got really really fluffy, which I love <3
I got tired of the blonde and red not working, so I decided there was only one color left I could try; black. I also cut my bangs.
My boyfriends dreads celebrated their 6 months birthday and got a good palmrolling treatment as a present from me
I counted my babies yesterday and was shocked to find that I have 75 of them! Much more than I expected.
Here's them with their birthdayhat:
Oh, and I have a question! I have been trying to get into naughty_knotty several times, but they keep declining my request. Does anyone know if they're just not allowing new members in or something? I emailed the moderator, but got no reply. (of course I have my date of birth visible in my userinfo and all that jazz)
A lot of dreadylove to all of you beautiful dreadpeople! :)
