Newbie dreads!

Hokay, so. Got them done yesterday! (Or this morning, whichever you prefer. Took a we bit.) Anyways, they are obviously VERY poofy, had an excellent side show Bob look which I will post pictures of sooon. Just a quick question. Obviously one should not wash them for x amount of time when they are all fresh and new. I was just curious about getting them wet? I know it seems popular to palmroll them when wet, and some of them are difficult to do dry since, as time went on, they got a wee bit flatter and flatter (Tired hands :)) Can I wet them to try and control the poof/help with palmrolling the first day or just live with the 'fro?
Thanks :D
