Maintenance

I've got the itchies, folks!

I'm wondering if there is anything specific I need to be doing to maintain these babies. The ladies at the salon didn't tell me anything other than "come back in three weeks so we can charge you way too much money to wax and palmroll your hair for you," which I'm not going to do. It's been almost a week, my roots are getting a bit greasy, and I've got the itchies! My hair isn't used to going more than two or three days without being washed so it has no idea what's going on right now.

I've read that palmrolling new dreads can lead to breakage or too-thin dreads later on, but I'd like to know what you think.

1. How long should I wait to wash my hair?

2. Is it safe to palmroll, or should I wait until things have settled a bit?

3. Should I be using wax now or should I wait until later?

4. For those of you who use essential oils on your scalp to combat the itchies, is it safe to use them neat or should I dilute them first?

Please don't respond if all you're going to say is "just let them do their thing, man." I want to take good care of them. :)
