Recently I've gotten a lot of emails and questions about my thoughts on people of other backgrounds wearing locs. Being a member of this community for over 6 years is a testament to the fact that I think people of any color can rock dreadlocks and look good doing it. Sadly, there are a lot of African Americans who think that dreadlocks "belong to us" and are offended by other cultures wearing the hairstyle. And that's where you guys come in! I really want to make a video about this topic and include people from all walks of life that wear dreadlocks. So who better to ask than this amazing community?
Basically, I'm looking for a 1-3 minute clip of you talking about your connection to your hair and why you adapted the style. Or, you could send me a photo to be included in the video. Also, if you have had an experience where someone told you that you shouldn't wear locs because of your race, please include it. I also want to include some historical information about dreadlocks and the various cultures that have worn them. So if you have any info or photos that you'd like to share, please do.
Lish, I know you don't like to show your face on the internets :) but if you could type up a little blurb or put together some photos with a voice over, that would be really awesome. I'd really like to give the community a shout out and I want you involved because you're freaking awesome and could definitely add a lot to this discussion.
So, if you'd like to be a part of this video, please send a clip to me at email@example.com
you can send the clip directly through the email, or you can use sendspace.com, depending on how large the file is. I don't have a deadline for submissions just yet, but I'll keep the community posted on the project. My goal is to have something up mid July. If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas, please shoot me an email or leave a comment. Thanks so much guys!
