cicadas

every seventeen years in the cincinnati area the cicadas come. i've never seen them, but i've heard horror stories; they are HUGE insects, and cover the sidewalks. they fall on your shoes, on your clothes, and, yes, in your hair.
i myself am from cincinnati, and am trying to think of a solution to this problem, thinking it would be a lot worse to have cicadas falling into three month old dreads than in smooth, brushed hair, as they would get caught between the dreads and-- yech, it would be nasty. i decided i would wear a goofy ass gardening hat everywhere, but then some one told me that seventeen years ago when she walked three blocks to her job every morning, she would have to take the cicadas out of her underwear, they were that bad, and she didn't think a hat that big would really help.
anyone have any suggestions? i don't want to walk around in a plastic bubble, and i'm sure it's inevitable that i'll still be covered in gigantic insects no matter what i wear, i'm just trying to think of the best headgear. perhaps a big beanie or a tam, i don't know.
